The PBS resin used to manufacture BioBreath straws is DIN CERTCO certified compostable material, Registration No. 7W0664, valid until May 2030. The certification is compliant with DIN EN 13432, ASTM D6400, ISO 18606, and ISO 17088, which are internationally recognised compostability standards. It is important to note that this certification applies to the raw resin material, not the finished BioBreath straw product. We are working toward additional product-level validation and will update this page as that progresses.

These are the two leading international standards for compostable materials. EN 13432 is the European standard and ASTM D6400 is the American standard. Both define the conditions under which a material must biodegrade to be classified as compostable. Meeting these standards is the recognised benchmark for compostability claims in the materials industry.

In landfill, visible fragments begin breaking down within 2-3 years. This compares to 200 years or more for traditional plastic straws. Industrial composting will achieve the fastest results; landfill degradation takes significantly longer.

Yes. BioBreath has undergone third-party performance validation conducted by Vipac Engineers and Scientists, a NATA accredited testing laboratory. The straw was tested for airflow resistance in accordance with AS 3547:2019, the Australian standard governing breath testing devices. BioBreath recorded a maximum flow resistance of 1,187 Pa, well within the 3,000 Pa limit specified by the standard. For reference, the incumbent plastic straw recorded 1,303 Pa under the same conditions. BioBreath outperformed it.

This result demonstrates that the straw does not restrict airflow beyond what the standard permits. The incumbent plastic straw recorded 1,303 Pa under the same conditions. BioBreath performed better.

AS 3547 is the Australian standard governing breath alcohol testing devices. Compliance at the device level is the responsibility of the device manufacturer, Alcolizer Technology. BioBreath is designed as a compatible consumable accessory and has been independently tested by Vipac Engineers and Scientists in accordance with AS 3547:2019. BioBreath recorded a maximum flow resistance of 1,187 Pa against the standard's 3,000 Pa limit, confirming the straw does not alter the airflow performance of compliant devices. BioBreath straws are individually wrapped in paper sleeves for hygienic, ready-to-use presentation. They are supplied in cardboard outer boxes with no plastic wrap and no plastic bags. The packaging is designed to match the product's sustainability positioning.

BioBreath straws have a confirmed shelf life of more than 2 years under proper storage conditions. This applies specifically to the thick-wall injection-moulded design and has been confirmed by the manufacturer. Recommended storage: 20-25°C, relative humidity 40-60%, in a dry and ventilated area with sealed packaging away from direct sunlight.
